Ethos
Caoimhe holds an MSc in Sustainability from University College Dublin and specialised in sustainability within the fashion industry. Fast fashion has resulted in levels of consumption never seen before with unprecedented volumes of waste being produced every year. The textile industry continues to expand as the global population grows and household income increases. This industry is the cause of 20% of global industrial water pollution and chemicals like molybdenum, mercury, lead, chromium, and arsenic have been found in the waterways surrounding factories in Bangladesh.
Jewellery is no stranger to this as major fast fashion conglomerates offer pieces for incredibly low prices. The disposability and poor material choices of these products results in short lifespans. These reduced prices enhance unsustainable consumption in society. Unsustainable consumption is at the core of fashion pollution and is growing decade by decade. Additionally, fast fashion has changed the way we value objects and the environmental effects are evident.
Knowing this, why would one create a brand and sell product? At ELSEWHERE, we understand that there isn't necessarily a need for more stuff in the world, but there is always room for art. We aim to produce unique art out of quality materials that will stand the test of time. By purchasing from the creators themselves, you are supporting their local economy and encouraging an artist to keep creating. We hope to share our art with those who share our ethos. ELSEWHERE is for you; it's fun, it's different, and ultimately it cares.
